About Guest Speaker: Sheriff Karl Leonard, a retired captain of the U.S. Coast Guard of 30 years and current Sheriff for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office going on 5 years, serves over 320,000 residents while having the privilege of leading a force of 300 sworn and civilian personnel. Karl and the committed force he works alongside every day strive to provide the best customer services to all Chesterfield residents and customers who they come in contact with. He is very proud of the men and women who are committed professionals in providing unbiased quality service for everyone and who remain aware of the duties and responsibilities they have as public servants at all times.
Sheriff Leonard has an extensive background in leadership from serving in the U.S. Coast Guard for over 30 years. His duties and roles included but were not limited to serving as Program Manager for the CG Yellow Ribbon Program, Liaison Officer for Office of Assistant Secretary of Defense (OASD/RA) for Reserve Affairs Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program (YRRP), Senior Reserve Officer, Sector Baltimore, Commanding Officer, Port Security Unit 309 in Ohio, Political-Military Advisor Joint Chief’s of Staff, Commander of Task Unit United Arab Emirates, Deputy Commander of Task Group 56.5 Kuwait and finished out his career as Commanding Officer in Suffolk, Virginia. Sheriff Leonard has experience in multi-nation settings; worked with numerous foreign officials in military, local police, local government and business capacities.
